Using Coconut oil and green clay to help with mud fever, rain scold and sores

I mentioned in another piece that I love to use coconut oil and green clay to help when our ponies are suffering from winter issues such as mud fever or rain scold along the spine. I was asked how I use them. I do literally place the coconut oil over the sore areas so that it acts as a barrier. If it is scabby I use coconut oil. If it looks a little more raw I use the green clay. This has been hugely beneficial for our herd. I will add though I have explored this in my own way...

As we know an animals natural environment is rich in diversity, nutrients, vitamins and food. In the wild they are self selecting, moving along hedgerows and pastures to satisfy their bodies needs and to maintain a natural healing state of balance. It is rare to be able to offer our domesticated animals this freedom and choice but we can support and continue to support them with a wide range of herbs, oils and supplements.
